That is incredibly stupid. First I thought our standing army and national guard has been at an all time high or at least enough not to need a draft. Second, there are other countries that have an interest in the Middle East and stopping terrorism (notice how those are two separate things). They can send troops in and Bush should quit being a dick about Germany, Russia, and France (although the whole "we don't want a war but you know after you won we'd like some oil and contracts" thing is being dickish too). Third, does Bush want another Vietnam?

The plot sickens even more...
Apparently, a draft is not the only thing on the card: There's also a motion in the works to possibly institute compulsory military service. Basically, that would mean no draft, but every American citizen would be FORCED to do a two-year tour of duty. (Add to this the fact that this "war on terrorism" will be over in four years, and you can see how screwed up this is...)

Why am I getting the feeling(and I'm not really suprised) that instead of going forward, that we're going to repeat history?
I get the feeling that this was planned out. I mean, simple,
"Keep the children stupid, and then just when it looks like things will get better, make them(our generation) do the same exact things we(the old generation) did."
All I got to say is, you may have gotten to my friends, but you'll never get to me.

I honestly wouldn't mind serving if there was a legitimate war for which we really needed the troops (ala WWII, when we got involved and the British forces were so depleted and France was occupied for that short time by Germany). But Bush said we went into Iraq because they have nukes. Yet we haven't found one nuke or even a site to make a nuke. And now we're still occupying them for no reason.
We need to do something about this. Spread the news to everyone. Write to your congressional representatives. If enough people do it, they cannot give in to Bush and show their faces.

Already started this stuff- put it in my lj today, and probably will get the stuff to the local "political" kids here as well.

And just in case anyone is wondering about validity, indymedia.org is a legit source, of which I found out about from one of my professors. And on that politician's site he has an excerpt from a USA Today article which talks about it.

I hope W doesn't think that this will gain him any new votes. The right wing flag waving dipshits will of course vote for him but democrates, the youth, and the non-retarded aren't.

I don't think he plans to make this public until after the election in November.

Of course he doesn't; he knows that the threat of having to fight and die for Cheney's wallet would mobilize every single 18-26-year-old in the country to vote against his lying, conniving, power-mongering ass.
