Shots of photos and old camcorder footage depicts a girl passing through from birth to adolescence
From the first day in your life, you're dressed in pink and given dolls to play with. You're given dresses to wear and ribbons for your hair. And that's just the start.
Do you have any idea what it's like going to school when you're a girl who wants to play rough? You're pointed towards Home Economics and netball because they're "feminine". You have to put up with sniping and gossip, and you can't have a good fight because every girl follows the same old hair-pulling and scratching routine. You can be a Prom queen, you can date the football captain and cheerlead, you can talk about Buffy and Friends at slumber parties. But try to do anything different- anything that's seen as non-girly, and all of a sudden you're "weird", you're a "dyke" and a "skank".
You can join the Army, but it's the glass ceiling and the lack of understanding that do it for you. You can go bodybuilding, but people think you're a freak, while the steroid monster boys in the same gym are adored. And maybe that's understandable, even accepted in this society. Maybe most women are happy to be mothers, wives. PR girls and receptionists. But not me.
I'm here to show you that a woman can survive in a man's world. Not for women in general or even in this society, but for myself.
